Snowballing Things have been piling up lately...
I realized that I needed to submit more of my work but I can't do it fast enough with just 3 sets of slides with an organization/gallery or 2 wanting to hold a set. I looked into getting more dupes and found out that it would cost me a couple hundred dollars. I looked into other alternatives and found out that most places accept quality digital prints. While trying to print out some work, my printer died and I ran into other various computer problems in the process. I spent an entire evening screwing around with my printer and finally gave up. I even took the damn thing apart and made it worse, of course. Kinkos was my next option and when I brought my custom color prints in, they wouldn't copy them because the photo paper has printed all over the back "Do not duplicate. Copyrighted material." I got in a little heated argument with a Kinko's guy telling him that I have the negatives and that I also have a website that contains my name and the same photographs that I had in my hand. That apparently wasn't good enough and I left the place in complete frustration. I COULDN"T MAKE COPIES OF MY OWN PHOTOS THAT I TOOK MYSELF!! I totally understand copyright infringement and he was doing his job, but damnit...I had no clue that my prints had those words all over the back. Anyways, I decided to get my images printed from a computer file and I think that is working out. The next day after my printer died, I got in my car, turned the stereo knob and heard nothing. I turned it left and right several times to no avail. My car stereo is dead and I am doomed to drive in silence in the LA traffic. I keep turning that knob whenever I get in the car in the hopes that it will magically turn back on. I've also been obsessing over the loss of 4 photos from my Objects of Attention series. The have disappeared. I searched for HOURS in all possible places and even in some unlikely places. Gone. Did I leave them somewhere? Did someone steal them? Who would do such a thing?? Maybe they got picked up by accident. Maybe I accidentally threw them out??? Whatever the case, I now have to plunk down money for a darkroom, make several prints which will take several hours, tone them, and then I have to age them. Even though the aging is accelerated, it will still take a while. On top of all this I was developing some film for someone and accidentally fogged a roll! Oh my God. I haven't told him yet; I'm waiting until I see him in person, which will be tomorrow. I can replace my prints, but I can't replace his film. I have never messed up so badly on a job. I seriously fucked up and I am nervous about facing him! Eek!
